Paintings from my Seagull series.

In both the Seagull and Layers series the sea and the sky are a recurrent backdrop, a manifestation of timelessness and our intrinsic unity. Traditional local fabric and tile designs forge a link with the original craftsperson connecting time, humanity, art and place.

The figures are mostly alone and translucent, the latter a metaphor for our transience and insignificance, yet the scale of the figure semi obliterates the horizon. This juxtaposition signifies both macro and micro level of our value in this time and space. The aloneness reflects each person’s struggle with the balance of independence, identity, belonging and acceptance.
