‘Carrot’ is a story I made up for my youngest. To her, Carrot’s story was amusing, but also fascinating and comforting, for me too. So, when I started making art as a calming daily practice, I chose to illustrate Carrot first from among the other stories that I have waiting in line.
I intentionally illustrated by hand using just biro pen and water colour and I did not utilise ai (Yikes!) or digital drawing tools (except for minor edits), as I believe that deep down, we resonate with handmade art so it is an important way to inspire and prompt wonder.

becoming jackal
An excerpt from my illustrated story : Becoming Jackal.
I lay down on the dry baked soil in the rut of the heavy fat tyred vehicle that passed this way to collect the logs... Logs; corpses of trees actually. The hard lumps of broken soil dig into my back but I lie motionless and close my eyes against the merciless sun. Jackal turns back and stands over my head. His soft belly fur a myriad of prisms, colours of autumn and fluff of dreams. He stands patiently blocking the sun from me, and my eyes from the blindness, from the despair.
